Field House Farm Holiday Cottages News & Offers
August 2016 newsletter
The summer season has happily been very busy and we have welcomed visitors old and new. Apart from an unusually cold week for the school Whitsun holiday, no-one has experienced a week without sunshine and dry weather, which keeps everyone smiling.
The new, roomy shower room in The Byre has been greatly admired by those staying in the cottage. We liked it so much that we copied the 'plan' and installed a very similar one in our farmhouse. Ours had to be installed in double quick time in June, as we had some French visitors from our twin town, Millau, staying with us in the farmhouse in July. They arrived in Bridlington at midnight on Monday 11th July, whilst John and I had frantically added the finishing touches only minutes before he set off into the town to collect them!
What are we working on now? The area by the wildlife pond has matured very nicely, so we are planning to use it as a croquet lawn with some additional outdoor games there too. At present harvest dominates our thoughts, as we are moving into September, and we have both wheat and beans yet to do. The weather forecast for the coming week seems to be favourable, so hopefully we'll get started on the wheat. I love harvest time. Nothing is nicer on a sunny afternoon than going into the harvest field with the 'lowance' ( East Yorkshire parlance for food and hot drinks taken to the field) for everyone working there. It's a special time, and all of us associated with harvest will experience the satisfaction of a field being cleared, a corn store filled and the knowledge that an important job has once again been accomplished.
In the next few months we'll look forward to welcoming Autumn and Winter visitors. The Bridlington Spa has a great line up of shows for the next few months. Sewerby Park's gardens are splendid and Bridlington's newly opened East Riding Leisure Centre is a fantastic addition, with a host of activities including a wonderful climbing wall for young and old.
The Yorkshire Coast has had a great season this year, which is so encouraging. People have re-discovered the pleasures of the British sea-side and we are constantly being told by visitors that, although they might take other more exotic holidays, they love the variety and beauty that is on our doorstep.
